Movia 2008 Sauvignon Blanc

December 26, 2011

Getting together for the holidays can sometimes mean eating and drinking things that aren’t always our movia sauvignonfavorites- aka fruit cake.  However, for us, meeting for a Christmas dinner with a group of our sommelier friends means good drinks all around.  Among the group were Veuve Clicquot, a sfursat, and a recioto. For me, however, the wine that stood out the most, was a sauvignon blanc by a Slovenian producer named Movia.  Slovenian producers tend to have very intense, hard and sometimes over the top whites, but this one was perfect.  It was a beautifully clear yellow, and yes, very intense, but so incredibly inviting.  The bouquet was wildly floral, with camomile, mint and sage, which paired with the sweet lemon and balsamic notes that followed.  It was hypnotizing and some how reminded me of a floral toothpaste.  The taste was quite different than the smell- salty, dry and a bit short.  More typical as a sauvignon with the citric notes and with a clean and pure finish.  To be paired with a fatty fish like salmon or perhaps a white fish covered in a cream sauce or nutty crust.
